Ascension

Work together to ascend out of the depths of despair and into four powerful towers positioned to perfectly defend the shrine.

This is a cooperative two-player game played with a standard checkers set. Alternatively a single player can enjoy the game by playing for both sides.

The game consists of a single-page rulebook alongside an extra page of additional puzzles to solve. Feel free to create your own puzzles as well!

I set a challenge to myself to show that one need not be an expert programmer or artist to create a game.  There are plenty of great game engines out there where you can create a game without any code (see among many others Game Maker Studio, RPG Maker, or Unreal Engine), and plenty of free or paid graphical assets available for use, but I wanted to go even simpler.

So instead, I set about making a physical game. Often overlooked, they allow for focus solely on game design. I limited myself to the contents of a standard checkers set: an 8x8 board, 12 dark pieces, and 12 light pieces.
